Big Chief

The Big Chief is another Rocket from the Advanced Exploration Technology Group, the conglomerate that builds mining and transport ships for extracting and transporting ore, botanicals, liquids, and other bulk materials from the outer moons back to Quantum Prime.

The Big Chief is based on the largest of space freighters that slowly plod the space pathways between the moons, the ones that are used for commodities which do not spoil and for which there is no urgent demand. While delicate flowers from Lukona and refrigerated ice plankton from Proxima Twilight are sent via overnight courier ships, solidified iron rich magma from Caldera Chaos and carefully carved black granite blocks from Exosol travel in the slow-moving Chief freighters.

How is a design that comes from a big plodding freighter useful in a high-speed Rocket Dogs race? The answer is simple - the large displacement, long endurance, low maintenance engines that power a Chief freighter are actually insanely powerful. Remove them from a huge cargo hull, scale them down, and strap them to a Rocket Dog, and the result is the best of both worlds: insane power (which means insane acceleration) but also a well debugged design that never flakes out at a critical moment.
